Following reports this morning of SlayerS disbanding, Joon Sik “Alicia” Yang, who has unofficially left the team, spoke with ESFI about recent developments and his upcoming plans. The interview was conducted in Korean and is presented below in translated form.
ESFI: Where will you go now that SlayerS is disbanded?
I wish to live outside of Korea while playing for a foreign team. I am actively looking for foreign teams, and currently talking to few teams at the moment. I cannot say any more details about it.
ESFI: What are your thoughts on SlayerS disbanding?
I was with SlayerS since the beginning, so I feel very sorry for those still left with the team and I will very much miss this team. I actually wanted to leave the team a few months ago and unofficially left the team for a few months now.
ESFI: What about the article about the disbandment? Can you talk about your side of the story?
The article from SC2inven seems to be distorted too much. For example, even for stories about me, it would be childish to think that my sole reason for leaving the team was due to my complaint on not getting a ride at the airport. There are too many reasons for my departure from the team, but mainly it’s because of Jessica’s inappropriate interactions with fans and teams, and her excessive focus on GSTL while discriminating against non-GSTL players like me.My complaint on getting a ride was only a part of the problem. Any players participating in non-GSTL matches had to take buses and taxis for hours by ourselves and were paid by us. It gave us an impression that she did not have a reason to come if it’s unrelated to the team league. When I was 2nd place in MLG and NASL, I never had any cheers or congratulations from her at all, not even a simple ‘good job’.Players also had asked Jessica numerous times to stop fighting people over Twitter. I disliked her fights with fans and teams most and I told BoxeR about my difficulties dealing with Jessica’s actions when I was having a drink with him after Slayers lost to FXO in the last GSTL. I told him about my intention to leave the team that day and left the team afterward.
ESFI: Jessica said in the article that you had declined to participate in GSTL.
That was because I really hated what will happen if I lose the match in GSTL. Jessica makes players very uncomfortable after losing their match as she complains about not preparing enough or not practicing enough. As I have said before, she seemed to care more about GSTL than any other leagues, so I was having too much stress about it and did not want more of it.
ESFI: Can you tell us anything about the other members?
It’s true that Puzzle, Coca, and Min will switch to League of Legends. They have been playing League of Legends together for a while and probably left the team house a couple of months ago. The news about them getting sick might have been a lie made up by the team since there was no other way [to announce their absence]. I don’t know much about Genius, Miya, and Brown, and it seems like MMA and Crank are receiving a lot of hate because of this article. I can’t say anything specific for other players as I don’t want to cause any troubles for them.
ESFI: It seemed like coach Hong takes care of players on non-GSTL side.
I know! I feel very sorry for him because he was basically working for the team with no salary. He only received travel stipends and occasional allowances, and only thing he ever received was a trophy for the best manager when we won GSTL.
ESFI: Do you know anything personally about J manager incident as mentioned in the article?
It’s true that things went the wrong way because of him, and things told in the article were what we have heard from the coaches. I don’t know any specifics. It’s also true that the team went downhill after this incident because BoxeR wasn’t at the team house anymore, and Jessica wasn’t paying a lot of attention to us, so we were left with ourselves for a long time. It’s understandable that we started losing faith in her as she continues to do bitter fights against various parties at that time.
ESFI: What about ESF teams and players denying practicing with SlayerS?
I’m sorry, but it’s very difficult for me to say anything about it.
ESFI: Do you have any last words for foreign fans?
To all my fans, I’m really sorry about how the article and the news came down in a bad manner. I will continue to participate in foreign tournaments. From now on, I want to go [overseas] with good news. Thank you for all of your support!
