Lets set the record straight.
제대로 한번 얘기해봅시다

There is no argument over the choice between peace and war,
평화와 전쟁의 우선순위는 평화가 당연합니다

but there is only one guaranteed way you can have peace and you can have it in the next second, surrender.
하지만 평화를 얻을 확실한 방법은 단 하나 뿐 입니다. 그것도 단 1초만에. 그것은 항복입니다

Admittedly there is a risk in any course we follow other than this,

이 길이 아닌 모든 방법에는 위험이 뒤따르지만,

but every lesson in history tells us that the greater risk lies in appeasement
하지만 역사로 얻은  교훈들은 더욱 큰 위험이 유화정책에 잠들어 있다고 했습니다.

and this is the specter, our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face that their policy of accommodation is appeasement,
그리고 이것이 우리의 (의도만큼은 좋지만) 리버럴 친구들이 그들의 수용적 자세가 바로 유화라는 것을 인정하지 못하는 어둠이고

and it gives no choice between peace and war, only between fight or surrender.

이는 우리에게 평화와 전쟁가의 선택이 아닌 싸움과 항복간의 선택을 줄 뿐입니다

 

If we continue to accommodate, continue to back and retreat, then eventually we have to face the final demand, the ultimatum.
만일 우리가 등돌리고 수용하기만 한다면 결국 그들의 마지막 요구, 최후 통첩을 접할 것입니다

And what then?
그리곤 무슨일이 일어날까요?

When Nikita Khrushchev has told his people he knows what our answer will be,
니키타 크루시초프의 연설중 우리(미국)의 답이 무엇일지 알고 있다고 말했을때

He has told them that we are retreating under the pressure of the Cold War,
그는 냉전의 압박으로 우리가 뒷걸음질 치리라고 말했습니다

and someday when the time comes to deliver the final ultimatum,
그리고 그들이 우리에게 최후통첩을 전달할때

our surrender will be voluntary because by that time we will have weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically.
우리의 항복은 자발적으로 이뤄질 것이라고 하였습니다. 그때에는 우리는 이미 안에서부터 정신적, 도덕적, 경제적으로 약해졌기에

He believes this because from our side he has heard voices pleading for peace at any price or better Red than dead,
그는 이를 믿고 있습니다, 왜냐면 그는 우리 중 일부가 어떠한 대가에도 평화를 원하고, 죽는것보단 빨갱이가 되는게 나으며

or as one commentator put it, he would rather live on his knees than die on his feet.
어느 방송가가 말하듯, 꼿꼿하게 죽느니 무릎꿇고 살겠다고 한것을 그의 귀로 들었기 때문입니다.

And therein lies the road to war, because those voices dont speak for the rest of us.
그리고 이것이 바로 전쟁의 길입니다. 그들이 말하는 것은 우리의 생각이 아니며

You and I know and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery.
여러분과 저는 생명과 평화가 쇠사슬과 노예의 삶으로서 살 만한 가치가 없다는 것을 알고 있습니다

If nothing in life is worth dying for, when did this begin, just in the face of this enemy?
만약 생명을 바칠 만한 것이 아무것도 없다면 이 상황은 언제 시작되었습니까, 적이 바로 앞에 있을때만요?

Or should Moses have told the children of Israel to live in slavery under the pharaohs?
아니면 모세는 이스라엘의 백성들이 파라오의 노예로 살도록 냅둬야 했을까요?

Should Christ have refused the cross?
예수는 십자가를 거부했어야 할까요?

Should the patriots at Concord Bridge have thrown down their guns and refused to fire the shot heard around the world?
콘코드 다리에서 우리의 독립군은 평화를 위해 총을 내려놓고 우리의 목소리를 감춰야 했을까요?

The martyrs of history were not fools,
성인, 애국자들은 바보가 아니었습니다

and our honored dead who gave their lives to stop the advance of the Nazis didnt die in vain.
그리고 그들의 명예로운 죽음이 나치를 막아냈으며 그건 결코 헛된것이 아니었습니다

Where, then, is the road to peace? Well, its a simple answer after all.
그렇다면 진정 평화를 위한 길은 어디있을까요? 간단합니다.

You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, there is a price we will not pay.
당신과 나는 우리의 적에게 이렇게 말할 용기가 있습니다. 우리는 자유를 위해선 싸울것이라고

There is a point beyond which they must not advance.
그들이 넘어서는 안되는 선이있다고

Winston Churchill said that the destiny of man is not measured by material computation.
윈스턴 처칠은 "인간의 운명은 물질적 계산으로는 설명될 수 없다.

When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we are spirit not animals.
거대한 흐름이 세계를 뒤흔들어놓을때 우리는 우리가 동물이 아니고 인간임을 알았다"라고 말했습니다

And he said, There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty.
또, 시대와 공간을 아우러 존재하는것이 있다, 우리가 원하든 원하지 않든 그것은 의무를 동반한다고 하였습니다

You and I have a rendezvous with destiny.
당신과 나는 운명과 맞닥들였습니다.

We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on Earth,
우리는 우리의 후손들을 위해 자유를 보존할것입니다 이는 지구상의 인류에게 마지막으로 남은 희망이기에

or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness.
그렇지 못한다면 우리의 후손들은 천년의 암흑기에 도달할 마지막 발자국을 밟게 할 것입니다.

 

 

레알 케네디 취임연설이 쩌는줄 알았는데 레이건 연설이 더 쩌는듯

 

이 아저씨가 배우여서 그런지 말은 정말 잘하는거 같음. 이 아저씨처럼 말 잘하면 참 좋것는데말입니다
