I love coming to this place! the food is great, I had a very comfortable bunk, and holy crap did I get RIPPED during my stay! 10/10 would stay again!

My wife and I decided to tour gulag country on bicycles last spring and after reading rave reviews we chose to make Yodok our first stop. We had trouble getting in the gate (which was expected as my wife failed to book our trip on priceline so we had to wing it). The guards at the gate were incredibly rude at first and told us to leave. They refused us service until I showed them the picture of "the dear leader" that I had drawn a gotee and sunglasses on. After that the guard said in broken English "you go Yodok, you do work!" and we were ushered in, full bag service and all. Despite the somewhat unsatisfactory service at the door I would say our stay was somewhat bland. Pretty much what you would come to expect from a DPRK gulag, same ol' public executions different camp. I would say what makes Yodok mediocre is the food! The 150 grams of corn/wheat gruel were hardly enough. Not to mention when I requested a gluten free gruel (I have a terrible gluten insensitivity) I was beaten severely and had half of my rations given to another guest. If you are touring gulag country I highly suggest skipping Yodok and checking out Kwan li so-12.

I really enjoyed chopping wood all day. I lost tons of weight (60lbs in 2 weeks!), and it's a hell of a lot cheaper (it's free!) than the Capitalist Pigs who make Jenny Craig. Facilities were good, was hoping for a few more towels after a long day and maybe a shower, but I guess you get what you pay for. Service was mediocre, but the trainers are good. They really motivate you to chop as quickly as possible using their torture tactics. It really works, give it a try!
