Children need to know that ponies cannot actually do this. If they thought ponies could fly around and do magic, they'd be disappointed that they can't really do that, and turn to drugs instead. There would be roving gangs of drug addicts, robbing and plundering the innocent citizens of America, taking over the nuclear weapons and unleashing WWIII. I'm just doing this world a favor by ending war.
