talking to each other without deeply touching each other. this often restircts them from being able to penetrate to the core of situation because they are unalbe to produce adequate descriptions. Written language, on the other hand, allows communication between people to break out of the constraints of oral culture. are raised in a writing culture, they bring this uniqueness to their speech. The process of communication becaomes increasingly individualized so that one can really know how a unique other person feels and thinks. Unlike an oral culture, writing cultures foster the growth of selfhood, in that empathic extension deepens and "universalizes" to the extent that personalized communication is embodied within society.
