Custom Game system Suggestions (Starcraft 2)
본문 :
UPs & DOWNs of Custom Game System in StarCraft2
UPs
1. Instead of arraying custom games by names, custom game system in SC2 arrays maps by types, allowing users to avoid same maps in different game name.
2. Maps are sorted by 'Popularity', So users can easily join the most popular game
3. Basically only map creators are allowed to post custom maps on Battle.net, which means they are more convenient to distribute their custom maps & there is more chance of leading common users playing map creators' newest maps in contrast to WC3 or SC1.
DOWNs
1. 'Popularity' simply means 'number of games played.' Complexity of triggers? Creative game system? or Custom Models? Popularity system doesn't consider any of such things!!
2. ONLY MAP CREATORS are allowed to post their maps by Galaxy editor, which means ironically common users who want to play custome games feel much more uncomfortable & difficult to play and download newest maps. SC2 servers are divided by US/EU/ASIA/KOR, so 'Division of servers' plus 'Map creators only' means inhibition of common users playing high quality maps in different servers.
(EX: In US/ASIA/EU, custom game 'Defense of the Universe' was released, which is SC2 version of DOTA(of WC3). But in KOR server DotU was not released, because the creator of DotU didn't have account in KOR!!!!!!!!! Don't you think it is absurd that map creators have to have four accounts to post their maps on different servers if they want their maps be played internationally??????)
3. 'Popularity' by number of games combined by 'Division of Servers' and 'Map creators only' is the worst custom game system in Blizzard game history. It is horrible. The worst nightmare ever. As you can see in NO.2, common users' convenience sharply declined for the price of map creators' convenience. It is somehow possible for common users to post downloaded maps on Battle.net, but it requires very complex process and almost impossible. And when 'Popularity' system is added here, even when newest maps are posted by somehow on Battle.net, newest maps have to overcome 'entry barrier'.
4. No map search system when you use custom game join menu. Map search system is provided when I make custom game room so I don't see why it is not supported in custom game join menu!!!!!
5. 'Map creators only' system is a a double-edged sword. I understand that such system is for the convenience of map creators, but it is no use when custom map pool in the server is small. Moreover, servers are divided, so if number of map creators are decreased or custom map pool get smaller, there is chance of risk that custom game system is entirely abandoned by common users.
Conclusion :
Custom game system in SC2 is mostly for the map creators in contrast to WC3 or SC1, And I understand that system features such as 'sorting maps by types' or 'map creators only' are for their convenience. But still, Custom game system in SC2 is incomplete and I see much more downs than ups. So I suggest to Blizzard to realize one of following suggestions :
1. Map search system provided in Custom game join menu
2. Intergrate all servers(US/EU/ASIA/KOR) into one universal custom map pool. (You should really think about this. Do map creators have to make four SC2 accounts to distribute just one map to all servers????)
3. Fix popularity system
4. Common users also can distribute simply downloaded maps besides map creators (considering cases such as downloading English maps from US SC2 sites and uploading to KOR server)
